Dive deep into the authentic Peloponnese scenery with a day trip out of the bustling Athens and make the most of your time traveling through the ancient gems of Argolis. Explore the ties of Mycenae and the town of Nafplion.

Starting with a pickup from your Athens hotel we will make our first stop at the Corinth Canal before continuing towards our destination. The Isthmus of Corinth is a narrow strip of land that connects mainland Greece to Peloponnese, while the canal drilled across it connects the Saronic with the Corinthian Gulf, thus connecting the Aegean Sea with the Ionian Sea.

After a short while we will reach Mycenae, a very prosperous town of Argolis in ancient times near Tritos Mountain and across the Argolic Gulf. Mycenae gave its name to an entire civilization, the Mycenaean civilization and was the kingdom of the legendary king Agamemnon, ruler of the Greeks in the Trojan War. We will visit the mystical archaeological site of the ancient town that was surrounded by gigantic walls, while the most famous spot is the Lion Gate, the entrance to the town with two female stone lions above. Close to the town is also the tomb of Clytemnestra, the legendary wife of Agamemnon.

We will head over to the captivating town of Nafplion, with preserved architectural buildings and two castles, Acronafplia and Palamidi. We will admire the city from high up by climbing almost 999 steps leading to the imposing Fortress of Palamidi, built in 1687 by the Venetians. Afterward, we will enjoy free time to purchase and try typical Greek food.

If time permits, we will stop by an idyllic place named Tolo, just 7 kilometers away from Nafplion, with wonderful crystal-clear waters and a unique landscape view.

We will continue to the ancient theater of Epidaurus, considered the finest ancient Greek theater in terms of acoustics and aesthetics.  We will marvel at a venue that housed musicians, singers, and dramatic contests, which included the cult of Asclepius. Epidaurus was also used as a means of treatment for patients, as it was believed that the viewing of dramatic performances has beneficial effects on the mental and physical health of patients.

Finally, you can sit back and relax on the drive back to your accommodation in Athens.
